The hugely popular 2009 SBS Korean drama, You’re Beautiful, continues to live on as it enjoys much success with fans in Japan. It has been reported that on May 6 through May 19, fans will have a special opportunity. They will be treated to a movie version of the smash hit, which will be screened in theaters across Japan.

For those unfamiliar with the drama, the plot of the series follows the fictional boy band A.N.Jell and the relationships between the band’s members. Go Mi Nyeo (Park Shin Hye) dresses up and pretends to be her identical twin brother, filling in for him while he recovers from a surgical procedure abroad. Upon completion of the drama, there were discussions regarding a sequel, due to the series’ supportive public response, but the talks never came to fruition.

The careers of the lead actors in You’re Beautiful did not end once the filming stopped. In fact, they continued to enjoy immense popularity from fans both in Korea and abroad. FT Island‘s singer Lee Hong Ki was recognized for his skills in acting and was cast in the new Japanese drama, Muscle Girl, which is set to premiere soon. CN Blue‘s Jung Yong Hwa and actress Park Shin Hye have been cast in the future MBC drama, You Fell in Love With Me. Jang Geun Suk has further strengthened his status as an International Hallyu Star of This Generation as he is set to release his debut Japanese single on April 27.

Jang Geun Suk, who played leader Hwang Tae Kyung in the show, shared a few words of thanks with fans:

“You’re Beautiful is able to have a movie version thanks to all the love and support from its fans. I’m excited to see how the movie turns out. I hope fans will enjoy this surprising treat.”

Being a huge You’re Beautiful fan I know I’m excited! I wish that I could make it over to Japan for this event. Thanks goodness for DVDs.
