Debut for four years already, had chosen to debut with “instruments” instead of dance to show off their abilities in music. Slowly, they were accepted by the people in Asia with their music. Rather than being called “Idol”, there have a stronger determination to grow, and they want to have cheers from the crowd as a band!

100% charms to conquer Asia
Q : During the year of 2010, you had a Showcase in Taiwan, and your tickets had been sold out within an hour. That time you had promised your fans that you would come back to Taiwan for a big concert. This time, you had chose to hold your concert <FTIsland Beautiful Journey> on Christmas inTaipei Nangang Exhibition Hall. What do you want to tell your fans since this is the first korean rock band to hold such a big concert in Taiwan with altogether 8000 tickets?
HongKi : When we know that we will be celebrating our Christmas n Taiwan, we were really happy and excited. Although we could not communicate in Chinese, but I believe that the fans could feel our love towards them. I am very excited fot all the fans to rock and cheer with us. BEcause this is the fist time holding such a big concert in Taiwan, I hope that the fans could support us, and also welcome the fans to Warner’s Music International’s facebook and comment, and tell us what do you hope to see as a special performance, or you can also list down what songs do you want to hear from us. Just write down your wish and who knows, your wish might be granted!
Q : Lately, FT Island had held a concert in Seoul, Korea for two days in row, and you have used your album’s title <Beautiful Journey> as your theme. Fans from all over the world had came for the concert and they were really enthusiastic!
SeungHyun : There’s fans from Korea, Taiwan, Japan and also America! There were also some elderly Japanese woman who specially came to Korea with tour to watch our concert! And one of them is a 70 year old granny who specially came from other country to see HongKi!
HongKi : Thank you all for your support!
Q : With the theme <Beautiful Journey>, I heard that you have used <Love> and <Goodbyes> as an extension of the emotions, and have sung for 2 hours?
JaeJin : We have performed 22 songs including songs such as <Bad Woman>, <After Love>, <Love Sick>.
Hongki : (Very touched) After a year, we could still stand on the stage and sing, we are really happy. When I sang the songs that we debuted with, I recalled back memories from the past. The concert is like a travel of time, and I hope that the fans could go through a beautiful music journey with the voices of FT Island.
Q : At the end of the show you even said “Thank You” in Chinese to express your thankfulness from your heart!
JongHun : We know that there’s Taiwanese fans in the crowd! (laughs)
Q : For two days in a row, you have special guests for your concert, right?
JaeJin : The cast of the korean drama <Secret Garden> Hyun Bin and Ha Jin Won had ask for our help to let Yoon Sang Hyun as Oska in the drama to borrow our stage for the drama’s shooting. So because of the drama shooting, Ha Ji Won and Hyun Bin had attended for out concert! And during the 2nd day of the concert, SS501’s Kim Kyu Jong had came forward to cheer for us too!
Q : Super Junior’s Hee Chul had also went backstage to cheer for his best friend, HongKi. After the concert, Hee Chul even tweet in his twitter :
” The concert has ended!! They are deserved to be called as a live band~ I can’t just watch their performance off stage, and I also can’t go on stage to perform so it’s not fun~ I have became a Primadonna today!” ( Primadonna is a name for the fans of FT Island ) So do you have any special performances for the Taiwan concert?
All Members : All fans must sing along to FT Island’s first chinese song <Still> ( You’re Beautiful Drama OST )!
HongKi : Then I must go and revise my chinese lyrics now! (laughs)
Q : Except for singing a chinese song, what other suprises do you have for your fans?
HongKi : ( Playing mysterious ) You will know it when you come on that day!
Q : Recently HongKi had attended a vareity show with a Rainbow. And during halfway of the show, the host wants Eun Hye an HongKi to eat a chocolate stick, but HongKi started to act strangely, and suddenly he bite the chocolate stick and your lips were very closed to Eun Hye’s. From the monitor screen, it actually seems that you’re kissing and Eun Hye is so shy after that.
HongKi : (laughs) The show effect is not bad right?
Q : FT Island’s Love Love Love had got into the finalist of the <Annual Rock Award> for the <Golden Disk Award>, your junior CN Blue also got in as the finalist in the same category. Both of you also became a finalist for < Annual Popularity Award>! Congratulations~
MinHwan : We were really happy, and we hope that we could win both of the awards!
Q : Recently you have a new single released, and also held a major concert, comparing with the underground label company in Japan, is there any difference in your frame of mind?
JaeJin : We were really very nervous. Debut with mainstream is a name with lots of burden! Although it does not affect our life, but this is a really rare oppurtunity, and we would all like to repay our fan’s expections!
JongHun : We can meet more fans in a bigger place, and also work hard to achieve our dreams as a successful singer!
Q : JaeJin had participate in the lyrics composing for your new Japanese singles and it’s really amazing. For Hongki, singing in Japanese shouldn’t be a problem now right?
JaeJin : Although our Japanese standard is still oka for normal conversations, but it is still tough to express our feelings and write it out as lyrics in Japanese! So I am still working hard for the lyrics composing, and I will write in korean first, then after that I would ask help from our Japanese teacher. But it is also tough despite our teacher’s help!
HongKi : During the recording, the pronounciations of the word “Ta” and “Zu” is giving my headache! It is so tough that I would also need to re-record.
Q : 20 and 21 December, FT Island is going to Osaka, Japan got your promotion activities for your 3rd Japanese Singles <So Today…>, your performances had attracted over 1 million fans to participate!!
SeungHyun : On that day we have performed songs from our singles like <So Today…>, <Boom Boom Boom>, <I Change For You>, etc. The reaction from the fans is really enthusiastic! Our title song for our singles is <So Today…>, and the song <I Change for You> is actually written by JaeJin, <Boom Boom Boom> ‘s music is composed by our leader Jonghun and the lyrics is by JaeJin.
Q : FT Island’s 3rd Single had all came up to Oricon’s Top 10 chart, how do you feel?
JongHun : Although it is very tiring to always travel from Korea to Japan, but we are still very happy, and we will give our best for our promotional activities.
Q : You all had been in Japan for a very long time, is there any places that you like to go the most?
MinHwan : I always go to Shibuya and Harajuku. I got a shock when I went to Harajuku because it’s the first time seeing people in cosplay costumes! I think that Shibuya and Harajuku is a place that has its own personality and is very unique!
HongKi : Ha! When I was in Japan I had dressed up like maid for cosplay before. The other members thought it was funny but I was so embarrassed and shy!
Q : Is there any difference between Japanese girls and Korean girls?
SeungHyun : Japanese girls are very cute! And then their sound is very high pitched, with a little bit of nasal sounds ; Korean girls sounds lower.
HongKi : There is a lot of girls that smoke in the restaurants! When I first saw it I got a shock!
SeungHyun : The more shocking thing for me is their girls’ high school dress. Their skirt is all so short!
HongKi : That should be a good thing right? (laughs )
Q : Your biggest impression of your Japan tour?
MinHwan It is the same as normal Japan Zepp Tour, we will get on a bus, but the Japanese roads is all very long, so we could not estimate how long do we need to stay on the bus!
HongKi : There’s one time we sat in the bus for 10 hours. Our total time in the bus for the whole tour is about 30 hours, actually we were excited because we thought it is a luxury bus, but end up it’s like those normal buses in Korea, the seats are very narrow.
SeungHyun : Because the seats are very uncomfortable, we could not take a nap in the bus!
Minhwan : I have not sat for such a long journey before, and so I have listen to all my songs in my mp3!
Q : There’s many Korean bands going to Japan for their singing careers, is the any difference in the music culture?
MinHwan : With comparisons, Korean music industry is usually made up of dancing groups, of course there is a lot of seniors before us are underground bands, but in the 20 century there is less band ; but Japan has a lot of young bands, and this point is really different, and also the culture of Japan’s band is very interesting and various, so we still have a lot more to learn.
Q : Then do you have any difference in your music in Korea and in Japan?
HongKi In Japan, we are mostly singing punk rock, and it is really different from the musics we perform in Korea. The promotions in Korea now, we will try to let all of the fans see various sides of us and the genre of music through major performances.
MinHwan : We will challenge ourselves in Japan with something that we won’t do in Korea. Like for the acoustic performance that we did last time, I played African Drums, and have a lot of opportunities to learn new things.
JaeJin : The music industry in Japan can let us try different genre of music and this is very good to us!
Q : What is your motto or a quote that you like the most?
MinHwan : Finish up all your work by the day itself.
SeungHyun : Do not do stuffs that will make you regret later.
JaeJin : Be cautious when performing on stage.
JongHun : Understand yourself.
HongKi : Believe in yourself.
Q : Your aims for your future?
JaeJin : First, is to promote our band with the name of FT Islnad, and let all of the people listen to our music.
MinHwan : And then we will have a concert throughout Asia.
